I guess it doesn't feel too different because all the operators can remain the same and the only cage where the result is not in the top or left is the 1-. Also the cage positions are the same for the right and bottom cages. It's probably more attractive as a puzzle if the position of the result can be anywhere and not just the top or left and still have a unique solution.
