 New Year's puzzle!
This one was created and sent to me by nicow:

(my solver says it's slightly easier than the Christmas puzzle)

It shure would be worth many points, I agree! But that is up to Patrick.

Note the puzzle is point symmetric, and the operators are regularly alternating.
It took me much time to find an appropriate grid. So it would be worth a try!

You're right, maybe I'll change my mind at some point.
But now it requires a bit too much manual labour to set this up (even getting
the puzzle itself solved and displayed took quite a while). I should create
something automatic, i.e. a form to submit user puzzles, automatic validation,
assigning points, etc...

Very good and imaginative puzzle, consistent and with a unique solution, in my opinion. Certainly well equilibrated (16 single cells in the upper half and another 16 in the lower half). It took me some more time than the Christmas puzzle. I think only a software can determine (as Patrick has verified) which one is more difficult, the rest is subjective. The Christmas puzzle has 24 single cells (vice 32 in this New Year puzzle) but less big size cages. The rest is very similar for both puzzles, neither contain subtractions, only additions and multiplications (except for the 4 divisions in the Christmas puzzle), the maximum size of the cages is 4 in both puzzles.

Hi Nicow.

I didn't finish your gift of New Year. I almost solved 95% of the puzzle and then it appears an error and so I hadn't the courage to begin from the very beginning. But it was good, a little more difficult than the Christmas puzzle.
I hope you or another one will edit a new 16-puzzle every month to break a little the routine.
Thank you and I hope someone hear me. [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

@clm: thank you very much. I wondered if anyone would appreciate this sort of puzzles. But you do!
@jomapil: in addition to my description: the new year's puzzle is solved using only logic, so no searching is needed. I will publish the solution at the end of this month.
And thank you for your interest! I do appreciate that very much. Creating puzzles is fun, I found out.
