Unfortunately it appears that today's 9x9 difficult has more
than one solution [sad]

Just so people don't get stuck on the "wrong" solution:
the one that's stored in the database has an 8 on c1,
a 6 on f1, and a 2 on i8.

I'll try to fix this ASAP..

You mean the killer sudoku (not today's extra puzzle)?

I sent you e-mail about this as soon as your solution came in (about 1 hour and 40 minutes ago).

I also put a message on the page itself: http://www.calcudoku.org/killersudoku/en/2012-08-18/9/3

and posted about the problem earlier: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=299

I struggled with this one earlier today before giving up for a while to do something else. On reading this thread, I put the values stated above into my grid (I already had the 2 and knew f1 was either 6 or 8) and quickly finished it... but I got the ERROR message, saying my solution was incorrect. Comparing my solution to fzpowerman47's, I see we got the same solution.

Part of the reason I struggled earlier is that I saw that the pairs at a5-b5 and a9-b9 appeared to be 6 and 8, signaling a non-unique solution. So I tried to find a different way around it without success. The values at c1, f1, and i8 don't help to resolve the deadlock at a-b5 and ab-9.

Glad to know I wasn't delusional when I thought there was something wrong with this one! [razz]

I just gave a few values in the "cycles" that I saw.

The last two rows:
495317862
867249531

In any case, I sent the database solution to anyone who submitted a solution
(I get a warning message here when a supposedly incorrect solution is
submitted for a puzzle).

Now I've got about an hour to fix the problem, or I'll probably have to
remove tomorrow's Killer Sudokus just in case.. :(

Thanks for sending the solution, Patrick!

It turns out the correct solution actually has a 6 at c1 and an 8 at f1, not the other way around. :-)

Ah...

Today's (19th) also had more than one solution [sad]
(three in fact), so I removed it to avoid the same issue.
