Has anybody else ever tried this?

You memorize the grid and the configuration of the cages, then put on the blindfold and solve the puzzle in your head. After solving you write down the string of numbers and fill it in to see if you solved it correctly.

Did you ever try this? If so, with what size puzzle?

Yes, I have. I do this every week with the 4x4 puzzles in the Volkskrant, and I have done it once with the 6x6 puzzle in the Volkskrant (that's intense) :)

So I just tried this with today's 4x4 puzzles. It's much more challenging. I also discovered that I can't keep a full puzzle in my head, but can construct about 3 of the individual cages and solve from there. But yeah, when I have time, I'll probably do this on the untimed 4x4's from now on.

I should make this a special puzzle: in the 1st minute, the operators slowly fade out, in the 2nd, the results, in the 3rd, the cage borders.. :-)

Or better yet, each minute one of the operators changes - addition changes to multiplication, division to modulo ...

That's an interesting idea. The puzzle is too hard to solve by itself, but as time goes by,
and as long as you've found enough numbers, subsequent clues help you along..

I think I'll call it 'Calcudoku Morph' or something like that :)

What would happen when you refresh the page? I feel like that would be an issue. Also, the majority of puzzles 6x6 or smaller are solveable within 1 minute, which just makes it a regular puzzle. Especially on things like 4x4 where I literally haven't taken longer than 20 seconds on a puzzle in months without unintentionally starting a puzzle and then tabbing away from it.
