Post subject:  What puzzles do you struggle with?

I've been on this website for nearly a year and I've definitely got better at solving the puzzles over the past 11 months or do. I'm still struggling to get any kind of fast times at the timed puzzles, but I generally manage to solve all the daily puzzles.

However, I find the puzzles with zero quite challenging at times and I really struggle to get my head around puzzles with negative numbers, particularly those cells that have a minus operator. What puzzles do other people struggle with and have you developed any techniques for dealing with negative numbers more easily?

The 7x7 subtraction only regularly slows me down. And the Friday difficult KS has definitely been tough the last couple of weeks.

I agree that the subtraction only puzzles can be challenging.

And the difficulty level of the Friday KS has been ratcheted up in recent weeks. There's a discussion about this in the specific puzzles forum. Last week's took me about an hour and a half and the previous week it was closer to 3 hours. I think it may prove difficult to solve these by logic alone without doing some scenario testing.

As far as I'm concerned, scenario testing is a form of logic and logic can be seen as a form of scenario testing.

I've gotten a lot better at the 7x7 subtraction over the past year, mostly due to clever guessing I think.
The 8x8 mod puzzles tend to get me sometimes. Patterned 9x9's can slow me down quite a bit. But really, every type of puzzle can be difficult every once in a while.

I agree with what others have said about the 7 x 7 subtraction and the KS difficult.

There is one particlar pattern to the Tues 9 x 9 that drives me crazy. Patrick doesnt use it often, but when he does, I know its a slow day for me. Otherwise, it takes time, and pencil and paper - for me to solve the Tues 9 x 9s.

I think this thread refers to the last time the pattern appeared.

Agree with all but have a [omg] "love/hate" relationship with today's 7x7 (with the -3 to +3 numbers).....do not really like these but I do seem to be able to solve them fairly quickly for some reason......like today......looked at it and said, once again [omg] and then just started plugging away at it and with a couple of "hope this is the right answer for this cage" continued on and with a few minor adjustments was the 9th person to complete the puzzle by 5:30 PST [smile] !!!

PS: then there are some (I find) really difficult timed puzzles [cursing] and cannot do mods most of the time

Oh my word... I absolutely HATE modulo!!! [cursing] [cursing] [cursing] ... Anyway, some other puzzles I struggle with are the 9x9's. For some reason, I am fine with the larger puzzles - 11x11 and up (in the books).
