Post A strange fascination with Excel
Hi There,

I discovered these puzzles in my local paper, titled Hitoshi and Killer Sudoku puzzles, which didn't really explain themselves to well. In search of answers on how these puzzles work I went in search of answers which led me here!
I've been hooked since and will be subscribing soon

I have written up multiplication and addition tables on scraps of paper and I'm hooked.

Now, I have a weird fascination with the old excel and love writing up tables and formulas for everything from my budget to recipes! I'm always teaching myself to write up new things.

I am rather curious to know if there is a resource that would allow me to write up a spreadsheet that would make answering these puzzles easier. Please be aware that the answering of the puzzles is secondary to writing up a new excel spreadsheet. I'm a strange fish, I know. I'm not looking for a pre-written spreadsheet to download or something to just cut and paste. I want to be able to type stuff in and see how stuff connects.

Many thanks for your indulgence in my madness.

Ermm, yeah, I did read that and had to scratch my head. Might have to ask for a script! Or a translation! :-)

VBA scripts are only for convenience, and for checking and searching.
Inputting a puzzle is easy with the minimum of key strokes.

Calculating the solution is only done by excel formulae.
When a solution not is found using in advance logic, a script starts.
Than a stack of combinations to be tried is calculated by excel itself, using excel formulae. So the script is as simple as possible.

My aim and fun is to build a spreadsheet that does most of the work, and to minimize the role of scripts.
