What?! [scared] I have sometimes opened 3 different rankings windows at the same time

Well, the system should be able to cope with that of course.

Which is why I have to redo the code of the rankings pages [blink]

(something else: just added a small improvement in the main page code,
which should make the main page load a bit faster)

And, for the technically interested, some further in-depth analysis of the
performance of the database server:

Image

It shows database queries that took longer than 10 seconds to complete
(so much too long). As you can see, I initially made a pretty unsuccessful
change on the morning of the 29th [huh]

A different configuration change this morning was more successful:
zero slow queries since then [woot]

More implementation tidbits: I just put in different code for
the bit that determines which puzzles you already solved today
(to show the green markers in the puzzle table).

This should fix the occasional long wait when loading the puzzle page for the first time [thumbup]

Also a bug in the "points today" counting should be fixed now.

Patrick,
I looked back at yesterday's puzzles, just now and several puzzles were not marked as completed, though I am pretty certain I did them. Going back through the week I found the same thing each day. The 4s, 6s, 9s, extra puzzles, and medium and difficult KS were all marked completed. All others appeared incomplete - 5s, 7s, 8s, 12s and easy KS.

I didn't do last Saturdays extra but it was marked complete, and that is what finally clued me in. (You may have figured it out already.) The new code is using today's completions no matter which day you are viewing.

PS: This probably belongs in a different thread under "Bugs and errors", but since I was quoting you...

The "slow queries" did reappear unfortunately.

I'm busy analyzing and improving (for example, reading up on "multiple indexes" for MySQL,
and fixed some old inefficient code on the book puzzle submission page (!)

(you may have noticed that submitting book puzzle solutions was slow)

Another small improvement: the code that checked which bonus puzzles were solved so far
(needed when you reach your bonus target and a new bonus puzzle has to be picked) was too slow
(sometimes taking 3+ minutes to complete [blush] ), this has been fixed now [thumbup]

Edit: a similar problem query on the history page has been fixed :-)
