 which puzzles to drop?
As noted several times before, and most recently in this thread:

viewtopic.php?p=4364#p4364

maybe it's a good idea to drop 1-2 puzzles a day, to somewhat
reduce the "puzzle load" (without affecting the daily variety too much,
and hopefully still satisfying puzzlers at all levels).

My proposal is to remove the following puzzles (KS = Killer Sudoku):

Sat: medium KS (so left is a difficult KS)
Sun: 9x9, medium KS (so left is an easy KS)
Mon: medium 5x5, medium KS (easy KS left)
Tue: 10x10
Wed: difficult 6x6, easy KS (medium KS left)
Thu: 9x9, difficult KS (medium KS left)
Fri: medium and difficult 8x8

What do people think?

thanks,

Patrick

As I said in the thread you referenced, I'm a fan of the Friday 10x10, so I'd like for it to stay.

Either the Tuesday 10x10 or 9x9 could go, for work load reasons. I like the symmetry of the 9x9 though so I would agree with dropping the 9x9.

I would keep the mod and exponentiation puzzles, and possibly drop some of the twins and KS.

(I'm sorry I don't know which days are twin heavy - if the 5s and 6s you are proposing to drop are twins then I think you proposed list is a good one. :-)

You mean agree with dropping the 10x10?

The twins maybe because they tend to be too easy?

I should put some effort into making them harder.

In case of removing the 8x8 difficult on Fridays (exponentiation) and to avoid loosing this undoubtedly original and interesting puzzle, perhaps you could move it to Tuesdays as extra for subscribers (removing the actual 6x6 twin, I also think that actually these 6x6 are not tricky).

I really like the Tuesday 10x10. It's only a problem for me because it comes on a day with so many other difficult puzzles. Do you think you could have a difficult 10x10 on a day with a lighter puzzle load than on Tuesdays? Also I agree with clm that the 8x8 exponentiation puzzle is quite appealing, since it is unusual, and I hope that if you drop it from its current day it will appear elsewhere, weekly, maybe as an extra subscribers-only puzzle. I don't like killer sudokus and am happy for as many as possible to be dropped. I like exponentiation. I don't like the all-multiplication. I like the Tues 10x10 but pairing it with the Tues 9x9 is tough. I agree with the suggestion to reverse the days for the 10x10s. The twins, though easy, are fun and not very time consuming so I oppose dropping them. I agree that making them harder could be interesting. Some already seem a little harder. I like the ones with 0s and negative numbers. I slightly miss puzzles with both exponentiation and 0s.

Yes, sorry. Though my preference isn't particularly strong either way.

What I should have said was, "I would vote to keep exponent and mod puzzles and the Friday 10x10. I would start by reducing the number of KS and twin puzzles."

Ok, changes have been implemented as listed (starting December),
with the 8x8 exponentiation puzzle moving to
the Tuesday extra puzzle (instead of the 6x6 twin from zero).

Let the flaming begin.. [scared]

Should the old Tuesday 10x10 maybe become the new extra Wednesday 10x10?

(right now that's a "medium" 10x10, similar to the regular Friday 10x10,
so if yes, then the extra Wed 10x10 would become harder)
