Post timed puzzle bonus
Hello,

To make the timed puzzles interesting (points-wise..) to more people,
I've changed the number of points being handed out:

"You will get a points bonus if you're in the top 20 best times of the day, for the 4x4, 5x5, and 6x6 timed puzzles:
10 points for number 1, then 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, and 1 point for numbers 11-20."

(it used to be 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for numbers 1 through 8).

But for you it won't really make a difference, now will it? :-)

I didn't yet address the fact that there may be too many points
one can add with the timed puzzles.

They are already fundamentally different from the other puzzles
in that you can score points that other people cannot.

So I'll change the bonus points to (for positions 1 through 10):
5, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2

Hmm, that will make them less attractive again.
Though it will be good to put Sheldolina back in place :twisted:

I still contend that you should create a threshold time for each length that you automatically get points for, rather than making them comparative. That way that fundamental difference is removed(And my point advantage comes back.).

Well, I think it will for the 5x5 and 6x6 puzzles. I hardly ever get good times at those.

Yeah, those are the only two I can win anymore, largely because of you

Post Re: timed puzzle bonus
Now that we've had some time to try out the new scoring system... I like the old system better. I think one reason for giving points up to the top 20 was to encourage more participation in the timed puzzles, but I haven't noticed more people doing timed puzzles since the scoring system was changed. Like some days everyone gets points except for 5 people for 6x6, for example because only 25 people did the puzzles. And especially when you end up being 3rd, it feels unfair to give the same number of points as the guy who got 5th. Granted, maybe the old system awarded too many points to an elite few, but can the system handle a decimal point scoring system? It doesn't have to be shown directly but it still adds up in the end. So the points awarded are 5, 4, 3.5, 3.2, 3, 2.5, 2.4, etc... or something like that.

Or even better, if there was a way to award points more strictly based on time instead of place, that would be nice. That is, say for 4x4... best time gets 5 points, but the other points are awarded based on how much slower it is compared to that time. Example would be
7.000sec = 5 points
7.200sec = 4.9 points
7.400sec = 4.8 points
8.000sec = 4.5 points
9.000sec = 4 points
15.000sec = 1 point
etc.

Or instead of starting from best time, set 1 point for 10th (or other) place and award points based on how much faster the better times are. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Anything is possible :)

Interesting idea. It also enforces the rule used in many races that you have to arrive within
a certain time from the winner to get points (or even to be considered as having finished).
