Idea for pattern
Hi Patrick, Idea for a pattern: a 6x6 or 9x9 puzzle made up of 3x3 areas with 2 Ls surrounding a 1 cell cage. The top left corner of March 26th's 9x9 puzzle gave me the idea.
And just a reminder that I'd like to see a triplet puzzle one day, too! :)

Thanks, good idea. I've added this pattern for a 6x6 in the "difficult patterned puzzles" sequence, and they'll be online starting next month (April 7 and April 18, to be precise..). Here's a sample puzzle: jake4 wrote: And just a reminder that I'd like to see a triplet puzzle one day, too! :) Ah of course. Really first I'd like to get the difficulty estimation of the twin puzzles improved though. Patrick

Re: Idea for pattern
Puzzle started very easily, became harder at about half the cells filled. Large addition cages generally make for a difficult puzzle.
Would, however, think that the two cell cages could be made into one 4 cell cage fairly easily for aesthetics sake.
Also, since doing this puzzle with those all as addition would be nigh impossible, there would have to be some 4 cell multiplication cages.

Of course only now I see you meant two L's! I ended up using exactly the top left corner of that 9x9 puzzle, sorry.. Patrick

I don't know who "we" is (are?), starling just struck me as a female name. My bad, starling! I will now associate your calcudoku skills with an image of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Don't worry about it; Starling's a username I've been using since I was 12 or so, because of the Superb Starling, which is an absolutely beautiful bird if you've ever seen one. I've always been a bird person, and so it kind of stuck. As an interesting note as to how my sense of aesthetics have changed, I find the superb starling a bit garish now, and tend to like birds more like the Carolina wren. Still beautiful, but nonetheless a bit garish. Don't even get me started on peacocks and cardinals. For reference: Superb StarlingCarolina WrenBut yeah, I realize it's a bit of an effeminate name now, but I'm just too lazy to change it.

Re: Idea for pattern
I totally get it. The starling is fantastic, but the wren has character, moxie. We have yellow-crested night heron nest in our yard every year. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WeXrScM_xe4/TCf0chOzVmI/AAAAAAAAA5Q/PJyNhuTdbsE/s1600/yellow-crowned+night+heron+wilmington+62307.JPGThey just crap everywhere. Back on topic: Thanks for building those puzzles, Patrick! I look forward to doing them.

Re: Idea for pattern
Am wondering why Jake4 is asking for harder puzzles when he is averaging 32/day for the last 23 days.......personally, I don't need to see any more harder puzzles as I try the Tuesday's 9x9 every week without much success plus if you really need a challenge and the preceding 9x9 isn't challenging enough then do the biweekly 12x12's, or the mod and bitwise or the mixed puzzles. However if you understand mathematical concepts then the mod or bit/wise puzzles won't be difficult. I'd like to know what % of users don't do the bit/wise or mod puzzles successfully.
