volunteers wanted to test "social widget"
Hi,

I've been working with people from a startup who have developed a "widget"
(about the size of the ad to the right of the puzzle now) that shows web page
recommendations, and allows for limited chats about puzzle topics.

I need 10 (ten) volunteers to try this out, so do reply if you'd like to [thumbsup]

Patrick

Alright, I see that asking users for help doesn't really work,
so I just put the "flashgroup" widget on the front page, instead of the ad.

Let me know what people think about it,
thanks,

Patrick

Looks neat so far. I just posted a couple messages to try it out.

Edit: ... Except when I went back to the page just now my messages aren't there anymore. I wonder if anyone else can see them. The only messages I see:

Under Timed topic is "test message"
Under Tips topic is 1 message mentioning killers (sudokus I think).
Under Sudoku topic is nothing.

Edit: Ok, sometimes I see the messages and sometimes I don't. Each time I reload the page it may or may not appear.

Ok, thanks, I'll pass this info on to the people creating the widget..

Patrick, I will confess that I don't quite 'get it'. There are a few barriers to my using the widget.

First of all, aesthetically it still looks like an ad and I have been conditioned to _not_ click on things that look like ads unless I'm pretty sure I know what it is.

Second, I understand that this is a beta test, but I don't quite know who the audience/participants are. Is this connecting users across various puzzle sites? Or is it like a calcudoku.org forum accessible from the puzzle pages themselves instead of the boards?

And then lastly, there was a section at the top of the widget that linked to a 6x6 and a 9x9 puzzle. That's something I'd be glad to click on. Heck I do a dozen calcudoku puzzles a day some days. [tongue] But the link is to 4/25/2012 puzzles and those are no longer accessible. If it can be dynamically generated then a date within the last week would be best, obviously. But also linking to a non-twin puzzle would make sense since you want the flashgroup widget to show up on the destination page, too.

Sorry to be mostly negative, but I hope that all helps.

No, it's a separate thing that's supposed to work across puzzle sites.

Yes, links like that seem to be less useful, especially since it's easy to get to other puzzles on the site anyway
(by skipping through the dates, or by going to the "special puzzles" page).

And don't worry about being negative, it's valuable feedback, I'll pass this along again to the people writing the widget.
