Re: Timed 8x8?
clm wrote: Just for curiosity, in this "experimental phase" of the 8x8 timed, are you using the same puzzle for everybody or it is being generated randomly for each puzzler (as it is supposed to be for the 4x4's, 5x5's and 6x6's timed)? Randomly as well, but at the moment from a small pool (only 10 puzzles). If the level of difficulty is acceptable, then I'll generate a larger pool of 8x8 puzzles of the same level. Patrick

If the timed 8x8s were entirely trivial, they would become a pointless exercise in fast typing. What generates the fun & excitement is that you need to go fast but can't just assume that the puzzle isn't going to contain any devious tricks to trip you up On the other hand, if the timed 8x8s were as difficult as the difficult non-timed ones, that would slow things down too much and everybody's need for speed would be unfulfilled

(I'm very conservative in the games department, preferring Pong, Space Invaders and the like to modern games with more interesting graphics.) I originally sought out the video on YouTube to mockingly compare a classical music video to it because I found the initial zooming in from a helicopter perspective (in the classical video, that is) to be somewhat comical. (Sorry if that sounds like an XKCD hobby kind of thing; I'm actually pretty normal some of the time.) In the case of timed puzzles, however, I thought the Need for Speed video would be an appropriate illustration of the action-packed adventure we timed-puzzle solvers crave and love

I played Pong when I was little (!) (friend of mine had it, and he later got the Atari 2600 as well :) I enjoy racing games, with Colin McRae Rally 2 probably my favourite. Anyway, we're getting off-topic...
