Congrats to marblevolcano......the shorter times must be catching as I finally posted a sub 4 minute time for an 8x8......talk about heart rate going up when I realized with 3 minutes gone that I had only a few cages to go [biggrin]!!!

But still - good job!

A long time ago, my best on the 8 x 8 was a sub 5 min, but that day I did not receive extra points.
I was a bit sad because a 4 min something often earns pts.

Recently, I got a sub 4 time. I was very happy.
I received 3 whole pts for that feat.

I do timed puzzles to get the 28 pts weekly for doing them,.

My motivation is pretty much the same as eclipsegirl. I do the timed puzzles primarily to get the 28 points weekly. Yesterday, I managed to pick up an extra point for doing the 8x8 in just over 5 minutes. That's about the 7th or 8th time I've managed a top ten finish and I even had one fifth place for 3 points a few months back.

I do the puzzles on a tablet using at most two fingers and I can't get anywhere remotely close to the times achieved by the fastest puzzlers. I guess if I trained myself to use both hands on a PC, I might be able to knock a few seconds off my times, but I doubt I would get anywhere near the top ten for the smaller puzzles. I still try to do the fastest time I can. For example, today I did my best ever 4x4 (16.174 seconds) and I'm currently lying 16th with only 38 results in and will probably finish outside the top 40 when all the results are in.

When I am doing timed puzzles, I get really excited (OMG GOT TO FINISH IT FAST!!! [scared] )
That's why I do timed puzzles... Also I like the competition.

Post Re: best 8x8 ever
I did my best 8x8 time today - 4 minutes 6.389 seconds. I have been trying to do the timed puzzles on my PC for the past few weeks in order to see if I can improve my technique and hence my times. But I've found it very frustrating and generally don't even make my top 100 times, particularly on the smaller puzzles. So I went back to doing the puzzles on my iPad today.

4x4 was terrible, but I managed top 70 for my 5x5 and top 50 for my 6x6 in addition to my best ever 8x8. I think I might give up on my PC experiment and just accept that I'll never be able to get anywhere close to the fastest puzzlers.
