Post Re: Your Personal Method
Having watched the video, this brings up an interesting question: In a lot of cases you passed over using individual cage solutions in the short term for large sums of all values type solutions. Do you typically work like that, or was it something used specifically for this puzzle? e.g. you filled in the 2 at g7 and the 5 at h2 before looking for something like the 6- cage immediately solving itself.

In unrelated news, I may do one of these with my method whenever I figure out a fairly clean way to capture everything that gets said. I probably should do one for timed puzzles, since I feel like there might be some interest in that, but I can't talk during those and do them cleanly. I may try doing a video of a 6x6 timed where it's not just hammering in numbers as fast as possible.

considering that Mexico, Argentina and Spain have 208 puzzlers (all time) and another 14 more or less from the other speaking Spanish countries (though the active puzzlers are a few, less than 30 in total)

Those from Mexico and Argentina arrived almost exclusively from Facebook
(I ran advertising there for a bit, it allows you to show ads only to people
who like 'sudoku', for example). But I found that Facebookers typically don't
stick around (hence the low number of active puzzlers).

4x4, 5x5, 6x6 puzzles I solve online. The greater I solve with paper and pencil.
I developed several programs that aid me calculating all the possibilities of the modules, the exponentials, the ORs, the products of the cages till 6 cells.

I don't think I typically pass over individual cage solutions in the short term or typically use the sums of rows and columns. As I said, I did whatever came to my mind first and there are many ways of arriving at the solution. I'm sure there's a faster way as well, but when you approach a puzzle, you probably don't always see the fastest route to the solution. You're right that the 6- cage could be solved early on. But I don't know if that helps to figure out g7 and h1/2. It's like the way I didn't fill in all the single cells first because I got to the 56x cage and decided I could go ahead and fill that in. Then afterwards I went back to filling in h7 and h8.

It would be fun to watch you do a timed puzzle, starling. It would be a short video if you did a 4x4. You could just do it first at the speed you normally do without explaining and then go back and explain afterwards. You'd have to do some video editing though.

For his videos we'd need to do repeats in slow-motion :-)

It was a good idea to present a personal solution, but it is very difficult for me and many others to follow the reasoning on because it is SPOKEN in English. Is it possible to present the solution in Spanish, by example? Or with subtitles in English? And slower? Or as Clm does?
I didn't solve the 9x9 of yesterday ( 07NOV2011 ). On account of the multifarious hypothesis I left off! It would be very appreciated if anyone presents his personal and cleaver solution?
Thanks.

P.S. - What I want to say in the first part of this message for the most part of players ( speaking other languages ) is more comprehensible written English than spoken English.

Yeah, it's just that my default is to go for individual cages first, and to use large sums like that as just short of a last resort. This is especially true in the timed puzzles, when summing up numbers is troublesome.

As for an video, I think what I may do is work through medium untimeds, since those approximately correspond in difficulty, I think. That way I can talk without throwing anything significant off.

I almost never do the sum of a row or column in the timed puzzles. But those only go up to 6x6. Sometimes I use that method for 8x8, maybe more often in 9x9, not much in 10x10 or 12x12 for some reason.

I do pretty much the same thing as rossiniman but use blue and red pens when using paper......I will print off the easy 8x8 only to save time......don't have the skills to do "bitwise" nor "mod" and just can't do the Tuesday 9x9 pattern(again just can't figure it out).....and, also, what is "excel" :?:.....not part of the computer generation obviously......any suggestions for the 9x9 would be appreciated.
I just watched the video by sneaklyfox and never knew that you could use the total of 36 for each column (in a 8x8) to help figure out a puzzle......I will try this the next time I run into a difficulty.

For jomapil or anybody. I included some subtitles so hopefully that helps you. Let me know how it goes. 9x9 of 07NOV2011...

Note of warning: My camera did something funny after 10 minutes so it's not the complete solution although most of the hard stuff is done and hopefully the rest can be figured out.
