Post Colouring the cages
I suggest to colour the cages.

First. It would permit to define better the boundaries of the cages.

Second. If , for instance, we use white for individual cells, light violet for cages of two cells, light indigo for cages with three cells, light blue for cages of four cells, green reserved as actually for the solutions, light yellow for cages of five cells, light orange for 6, rose for 7, light red for 8, …, following the “rainbow”, a quick look to the puzzle will provide an idea of its complexity (in the “ultraviolet” easy, in the “infrared” difficult; generally speaking if there are less cages, the results of the products, for instance, increase, as well as the number of combinations). In the 7x7 difficult on Wednesdays, the 10x10 on Fridays, and the 8x8 medium on Sundays, another color could be added, like light gray, randomly combined with the light violet to avoid monotony, since most cages are of two cells.

Third. The “symmetrical” puzzles 9x9 on Tuesdays, 8x8 medium on Saturdays,…, would look wonderfully.

Fourth (and this is science fiction). We would train our brain to relate operations to colors. Imagine that, in the future, a new let’s call it “calcudoku killer” is conceived, in which the “cages” (subcages) are numbered and coloured, but the cells are not together, that is, the cage is broken into some number of pieces, the operands are anywhere in the grid (in a case like that a “72x” of three cells could have the solution 9-8-1, for instance, with those numbers in any part of the puzzle, or the 1 and the 8 together (in a 2 cells cage) and the 9 alone, or also imagine the “216x” in three cells, but this time the combination 6, 6, 6 is possible, being the 6’s of course in different rows and columns. Looking for colors, we could quickly locate the associated cells.

Can we colour the cages online?
Or your suggestion is only on paper?

Both could be an option, perhaps begginners would like colours, while expert puzzlers would not. It was just an idea.

But how to colour the cages as we see them here in the forum?
Or use numbers of different colours?

No, numbers in black, colours only in the background, i.e.

It's that what I want, Clm! But how to select the background of a cage?
I don't see in the page of the puzzles anything about it!

That feature does not exist actually, it was only a suggestion I made on June 12, 2011 (the original post).

I think what jomapil means is: what program do you use to create your annotated diagrams?
(e.g. Photoshop, Powerpoint, etc.?)

I just use the "Paint" program normally provided by Micro$ with the O.S.'s (I use XP Service Pack 3) if that is the question, but my original idea was different, it was referred to the main page itself (it could be an option, among others, like the one recently suggested of colouring differently the cells of a cage to help the puzzler to "underline" some idea ...); by the way, Patrick, still not having the coordinates with the printed solutions, when asking for the solution the coordinates disappear from the grid (it is interesting, otherwise you must "paint" them).

It worked perfectly.
Thank you, Clm and Patrick.

P.S. - I think odd Paint recognize the lines of the cells!
