Totally agree with you, as I am in a similar situation. I was very happy to unlock puzzles by watching an ad - I hope this can be re-introduced in some way.

Looking at an ad suited me very good. I know other sites have google ads.
reddit is an option, for example (you can create a dummy account there, but do post to a relevant subreddit of course).
imgur is another. I'll try to find other options.
Edit: at some point I'll probably re-enable to "watch ad to unlock" option, it'll depend on what I can get approved with my new ad provider (who is not providing me ads yet, by the way, still stuck in the admin

I was of the impression that implementing Google ads should unlock the subscribed puzzles.

I've had a report from a user that ads for HBO Max specifically disable the puzzle (!)
Is anyone else seeing this?
I've been able to get HBO ads by setting up a new browser profile, and creating some interest by visiting streaming video sites.
I'm getting HBO ads now, but all is working ok so far

Ok now I know the ad "steals focus" from the puzzle.
So you're entering digits using the keyboard, the ad appears,
and now your keystrokes "go to" the ad, which you have to fix
by clicking the puzzle
.. looking for a way to fix this now
edit: I've put in a fix that should work for modern browsers,
scream if you are still experiencing this issue

I'm getting closer to a fix for ads "stealing focus" from the puzzle.
In the meantime, it would help when, as soon as you notice the focus going away
(i.e. you enter numbers, press arrow keys, but nothing happens in the puzzle anymore)
you click "report ad" on the offending ad (not sure how this would work if there are 3 ads
on the page, for example, and they all refresh at the same time )
