Post subject:  a4v17 - Two possible solutions

I thought I must have made a mistake when completing this puzzle as the final four cells (A2 to B3) were interchangeable. But the solution I entered was accepted as correct. As far as I can tell, I could swap the four cells and still get a valid solution, or am I missing something?

Can you send me the solutions via email?

edit: never mind, I checked the puzzle and am seeing the same thing (so far).

Not sure yet if the new & operator, the fact that it's a "from zero" puzzle,
or the fact that it's a twin puzzle is to blame [mellow]

After your post I have solved the puzzle (just now, very easy BTW) and I think you are right, two solutions, simply swapping the 4 numbers in (a2-b2-a3-b3) (I sent the smaller one in a2 scoring the 8 points).

A possible solution could be to break the cage "0&" (a3-b3-a4-b4) into two vertical 2-cell cages, with "0&" for (a3-a4) and "3-" for (b3-b4) what solves the uncertainty.

Hi Patrick

I've sent a scanned copy of my solution.

from now on I'll need written proof of all solutions before points are awarded [tongue]

I checked this now, and am happy to see that my solver is working correctly,
and that this twin should never have been accepted for the book...

Will check the logs next.

Also, the nice thing about selling this book as a PDF (so far), is that I can send everyone an updated copy once done,
and of course put an updated version online [love] [love] [love]

edit: this has been done now, and thanks to clm for the suggested correction.

I've also double-checked the other twins in the book, they're all ok [smile]
