Post Sat Dec 9 2023, Difficult KS
I am just wondering if my daily distractions, anxiety over doing ALL the dailies, and perhaps brain fog almost got the best of me.

I found this KS more challenging than usual.

I got it done, but it took a whole lot longer than it should have.

It was a bit tricky, but I didn’t find it exceptionally difficult.

Last Thursday’s difficult 8x8 was a different story, however. I had a very busy day on Thursday and only got round to tackling it shortly before I was due to head out to play bridge. I didn’t get very far and I tried again after I got home at around 20 minutes to midnight CET.

Maybe it was the time pressure that I was under, but I just couldn’t find any way of getting to grips with it. I note that it was only solved 157 times, which is very low for a puzzle that is not subscriber only. So I guess I was not the only one to find it difficult.

I’d be interested to hear how other people managed to crack it.

Paul,
Verifying that this the Thurs Dec 7, 8 x 8 mod puzzle.

I did that particular puzzle but I can't remember what I did. For me, I rarely remember the process unless something was unusual.

I suspect that I solved it to a certain point where I had one of two possibilities and then used trial and error. I get stuck and can not always find an analytical solution (no trial and error) on puzzles.

I will try and come back and re-solve it, But give me some time.

Happy holidays to your and yours.

Happy Holidays to all our puzzlers, and to Patrick and his family.

I took a look at it today.

I am pretty sure I did use trial and error. In the A7, and A8 cells, there are only a small number of possibilities and that is where I think I started.

Having solved all today’s puzzles, I decided to have another go at last Thursday’s difficult 8*8.

Not being under time pressure certainly makes a difference to my clarity of thought and I managed to solve it, albeit with a little bit of trial and error. The message to myself is not to leave puzzles until the last minute. Sometimes however, life gets in the way and the other lesson learned is not to let it stress me out if I don’t solve ALL of a particular day’s puzzles.
