Do you have a relatively unrestricted data plan on your phone? I can tether my iPad to my iPhone if we lose our ISP for any reason (such as a power cut). I also have a power bank that can be used to recharge my devices in the event of a lengthy power cut.

Re: 8x8 timed
Sadly, I do not have a cell phone.......hard to believe in this age of electronics.......however, after this last storm (and there are probably more in the future) I will be getting an iPhone of some kind as everyone else in my extended family has iPhones......then I will have to see about the suggestions you and Patrick have mentioned........when thee power is out, then no wifi connection is possible

Re: 8x8 timed
Managed to improve my best 8x8 by over 4 seconds today. Would have been a few seconds faster if it hadn't taken me so long to notice that the top two cells on the left hand side still had pencil marks in them. I eventually noticed just before I panicked and started over again.
I've been struggling to improve on any of my times for all the timed puzzles recently. This was my first 'best time' in over three months. I'm really going to have to start practising on the keyboard, but will have to work hard at getting my left hand to perform a useful function in this regard.

It's so easy to do that! I feel your pain.

Bottom right is definitely the worst corner for finding errors in a timely way!
