I really like the new styling on the timed puzzles home/landing page. The mellower colors are nice.

That said, I would appreciate it if the logged in user's scores stood out a little more, either through more contract to the background color or a change to the font. Currently it shows up as a brighter white against the default background.

A secondary suggestion is to change the background color for the selected puzzle size in the "Choose puzzle size" section at the top of the page. I didn't think to get a screen shot of that, but it is still the bright green of the prior color scheme.

Glad you like it :-)

It's more an unintended consequence of me messing with the styling for this page:

edit: link removed because page under development

edit 2: the graphs are now accessible from the timed puzzle starting page (well at the moment
only if your language is set to English or Dutch, still have to do the other translations..)

Various bugs with that graph have now been fixed [omg]

It basically shows I have not been improving over the past year ... :

Gee whiz, both you two are dedicated timed puzzles solvers (speedsters)

I’ll never get there. I do the puzzles for participation points, and I often land in the top 25 of the 8 x8 which has a reduced pool because it is for subscribers only.

Since Patrick increased the extra points to the the top 25 solvers, I have achieved the top 25 in every size puzzle at least once. I know its a weird thing to be proud of as I only see participants getting faster. I hm grateful for the the participation points.

It's funny what counts as a speedster; it's definitely all relative. I feel like a distance runner doing wind sprints. Lately, I've been averaging about 9 points a day which means that more often than not I land between 11th and 25th for a given day. So _I'm_ really pleased when I get in the top 10, and on those rare times I'm in the top 3 - well, I tend to check back during the day because there are enough true sprinters out there to put that 'extra' point in jeopardy until the end of the day rolls around.

I think we feel proud when we do better than we normally do. We should anyway. The points are divvied up amongst the community as a whole but you have to judge yourself against yourself.

That said, times have only gotten faster over time. I have vague memories of 1 minute on the 6x6, 30 seconds on the 5x5 and 10 seconds on the 4x4 all being really good, surely worth some extra points. No longer.

Also, within the last year I've gotten my 4th best time ever for a certain size puzzle but it wasn't even the 4th best time of the day.

The plot now also shows a 2-week running average [thumbup]

For me, the 2-week moving average just shows up as 0 across all data points.

This looks really cool [thumbup]
I'm very interested to see even more stats, especially stats that go back even further.
