I have noticed some people have been able to solve timed puzzles extremely quickly and I would like to know your strategies. I have seen people solve timed 4 by 4 puzzles in as little as 6 seconds. My fastest time for a 4 by 4 is about 15 seconds, so what can I do to improve my speed?

I don't think about it, I just hit as fast as I can.. That said, for the last one, just rapidly hit all 4/5/6 buttons; It's faster than seeing what you're missing.

Also, L-shaped cages with one solution are really useful for 4x4's, since they type in a really fluid motion.

Some L-shaped examples to remember:
2- 141
48x 434
42x 424
36x 343
18x 323

Also, 9x (313), 16x (414 or 242) and any 1/ (If it has a 1 through the center, it's automatically 242) come in handy.

Btw, for clarification, I meant these only for 4x4. I didn't include some other L-shaped examples such as 4+ (121). Or some really easy ones like 2x (121), 3: (131), 4: (141).

Well, I just practised really really much, I type very fast, and I use the L-shaped cages, too. If I fill in the L-shaped ones that have only 1 solution and the cages with only 1 box, it is very easy to fill in the rest of the puzzle fast.

Ok question: How did you practice "really really much" when everyone can only practice 3 a day?

There are lots of regular 4x4 puzzles one can use to practice, no?
Even in the books, newspaper, etc...

And also, doing the 3 4x4's for the day as fast as you can comes in handy. I usually use them as a barometer for how well I'll do that day.

Like the others said: I use puzzles in books and newspapers too. And there is another calcudoku site I use.
