Post "quiet" timed puzzles
This has been posted before on the forums, but it's a bit buried in a thread somewhere:

If you post a fast time on a timed puzzle, but more than half the time no key was pressed,
then the time is (eventually) removed from the database.

I realize it is possible to maybe solve a puzzle really quickly on paper, and then enter it
on screen (?), but I'd rather people solve a timed puzzle online completely.

Please don't take this as a challenge to "beat the system"...

Solve a puzzle quickly on paper?? How quick could that be?

I don't know, but one time when I inquired with someone
(s)he claimed that that was the way it was done.

I borrowed a friend's Kenken book once and had him time me. I think I solved an easier 6x6 in about 17 seconds, but that was both an easier puzzle, and the timing was a fairly unreliable method.

Solving on paper and then keying it in, though...

Strange... what keeps me from posting spectacular times is the slowness of my key boarding... and what keeps me from doing book puzzles is that they take me about 3x longer to do :-)

Yeah, and nevermind having to first print out the puzzle?

I agree that solving on paper then keying in a timed puzzle seems crazy. But with the large puzzles, if I'm already working on paper I might use a corner of the page to write out numbers without reproducing the diagram. So printing isn't necessarily necessary. It still seems improbable on a fast timed puzzle solution though.

I don't know... I'd like to see someone do a 6x6 with that method and get a good time on it. At least I'm curious to know how long it would take. Can they get it under a minute?

I don't think I can do that fast transcribing book puzzles. And there you don't have to hit the arrow keys after each entry.
