Not sure if this is bug or not:

At about 3:04 pm Central (2 hours and 36 ins before reset) I went to save todays 12 x 12.
I saw the hourglass, and waited and waited, and waited. I waited for over a minute.
I clicked the Hourglass image, and waited and waited and waited.

Eventually, I decided to print the puzzle so I would have the progress since the last save.
Used the BACK button after it printed, and when returned to the page with the tools on it, I was able to save.

just wanted to let you know.

Yes, I've been having that a lot lately, have been in private email conversation with Patrick, and may have been the one who stimulated his inclination to create the hourglass. For me it has been working well most of the time but too often it gets stuck like it did for you.

Thanks for the info.

There's another efficiency improvement for the save function in the pipeline,
just have to find some time to put it in and test it [smile]

But from this I think there also needs to be an extra fix for when the save fails / times out for some reason.

sjs,
I emailed Patrick on Monday when I noticed the hourglass. I tend to save most of my puzzles.
I like the change. I really do appreciate it.
TY for encouraging this change

I wanted Patrick (and others) to know of a possible glitch.

I am willing to wait second, even 30 seconds. 1 min + seems a bit long.
Hence my post.

Yes. Saving should take about a second, and less than 10 seconds for sure.

Most of this time is taken by the network (the actual loading/saving typically takes less than 1 hundredth of a second).

Is there a way you can more consistently reproduce the problem?

For example, saving a large puzzle with lots of numbers and guesses, at a busy time maybe?

I’ve had no trouble saving puzzles. Seems to take a second or two at most.

I have improved the error handling a bit (the save icon should now return,
and an error message displayed if the save failed for some reason)

So the hourglass doesn't go away?

Does the puzzle get saved?

I'll try to test with the browser you use.

the hourglass just stays there and it doesn't save. except for once when it did. just to muddy the waters. save i mean. but all other times if i open that puzzle in another tab or refresh the current the save didn't happen.
