Can't we create a "killer calcudoku" that has any of the operations like a normal calcudoku and simply add in the 3x3 feature (only one of each number from 1-9 in each 3x3 box?) That would make it a calcudoku but one step towards sudoku. An easy puzzle of this type could be solved like a normal calcudoku but with added clues from the sudoku rule whereas a difficult puzzle would require all the clues. Why not?Good idea for a puzzle! (add it to Patrick's long, long, long list.) Only we shouldn't call it "killer calcudoku" because the extra 3x3 sudoku cage would actually make it easier, all else being equal. What we really need is someone with Japanese language skills to come up with some better names for these things. ;)

They're a relaxing change of pace from the really challenging 9x9 difficult calcudokus we've had in the past week. I agree with you, random fruit, that a variation using multiplication and even other operations in the killers is a good idea. Varying the killer sudokus in this way would probably attract people who already solve them on other sites, because of the novelty. It might also tempt them to try the calcudokus as well--bringing new members to this site.
