Late to chime in, but a heartfelt congratulations Patrick!
Not sure if we are going to hit 20 million this year, since that would require about 270 000 puzzles a month being solved henceforth. That is quite a steep ask.

You could celebrate each additional million solved puzzles by issuing a puzzle of matching size - 18x18 for 18 million and so on. |

Maybe I need better hardware. Kidding aside, this site has been a surprisingly important part of my day to day life for most of the last eight years, bringing me much enjoyment (and a little frustration from time to time  ). I'm sorry I missed out on the first two years, but am grateful for the rest of the ten. Many heartfelt thanks and congratulations to you, Patrick!

Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with submitting y2018. I tried submitting it just now and was told it was an incorrect solution. I've checked and rechecked it and can't find any mistakes. I wonder is there a non unique solution, as happened with y2009? |

I went back over it and found 3 more solutions. The first of these was accepted as correct, but no points awarded as I had already submitted two book puzzles today. The problem arises when you get down to the last few cells in the two large cages. At that stage, all the other cages have been completed apart from a two cage near the largest cage. I was unable to arrive at a logical way of deciding how to resolve the remaining cells, so I tried one of the alternatives. This led to a completed solution, which was not accepted. I retraced my steps from that point onwards and found four more possible solutions. Partick, I will be happy to send on all five solutions to you if you would find this helpful. I've saved them in a spreadsheet. |
