How frustrating! But at the same time very interesting.
All the cells are " correct " and only one operation is wrong!

Had you a situation like this?

This happens to me all the time in timed puzzles because a lot of those the best thing to do is guess and test. Basically if it happens there I know where I guessed. If it happens in an untimed, then I just clear the puzzle and start over, since there's no way of knowing where the error occurred.

Yes, Starling, but it is very frustrating start over from the beginning [bored] .
In this case, Patrick must accept the situation and mark points [biggrin] .

Yeah, sure, half a point for an "almost correct" solution...

Interesting, but this happens because, for instance in this case, we may permute the even numbers in some way; in cases like this you do no need to erase the full puzzle, just do this: d6 = 6; d7 = 2 ---> f7 = 6 ---> f3 = 0 ---> g3 = 6 ---> g6 = 0 ---> b6 = 4 ---> b5 = 0 ---> f5 = 4 ---> f6 = 2 and you get the correct solution (I have painted that correct solution with the numbers in big size and black color in the left side of the involved cells using your own drawing), we may see that it is a simple permutation affecting only some even numbers; this may be used when there are cages of the type "0x" or "0:" and it is possible due to the many possibilities to produce the 0, and also for that reason it is not difficult to arrive to a false solution.

I show in red another "frustrating" situation (to know how many of them are possible we would need the computer, departing from part of your drawing, that is, keeping the 39 correct cells and looking for the permutations in the other 10) which is practically identical to the correct solution but in this case with the pairs d6, d7 and f6, f7 exchanged.

Observe the 3 configurations for the cage "0:": [0, 2, 4], the correct one, and the two permutations with [0, 4, 6], the one you arrived to and the other in red that I show.

Unfortunately for me, I'm generally unlucky. If I guess, I guess wrong most of the time. Like, if it's 50/50 chance, I would guess wrong 85% of the time. Like, in a chance game where I have about 50% chance of winning, I would have a 23-game losing streak. (That has happened to me.)

Don't you see you're a walking goldmine??
I'll take you to the casino and just invert your betting advice :-)

Haha... that's a strategy. Yes yes, it depends on which side you're talking about. I'm as "lucky" as the guy who has a 23-game winning streak.

I use the 'Save for later' button at the time I start guessing.

This isn't related to what this thread is really about, but I wanted to comment on something I found interesting and didn't want to start a new thread so I thought the "Interesting!" thread would be appropriate.

I notice that the 6x6 easy puzzle seems to be solved the most of any of the daily puzzles, even more than 4x4 easy. Is this because the site's home page defaults to the 6x6 easy? Or maybe some users just want a daily dose of calcudoku but don't want to go to the trouble of solving something as easy/trivial as a 4x4 easy? Whoever can solve a 6x6 easy can certainly solve a 4x4 easy and yet...!
