Yes, I'm thinking that'll be something like:
shift + 2: enter 2 as a guess
ctrl + shift + 2: enter -2 as a guess

Could you also make the the ctrl key work as a negative as a regular entry? i.e. ctrl + 2: place -2 in square

Yes, but I'd need to check if I'm not conflicting
with other common shortcut keys (e.g. Ctrl + 2 might
be "go to 2nd tab" in a browser, which I'd then override)

Speaking of overriding, would it be possible for you to trap F5 and ask the user if he really wants to reload the page and lose everything entered so far? I've accidentally done this several times on my netbook with its small keyboard and function keys next to the digit keys.

That's possible: you can detect if someone leaves a page, and ask for a confirmation.
I could keep track of how many digits have been entered since the last save, and if
that number is 10 or more (say), ask for a confirmation.

3. On the timed puzzle selector page you have to click on the size selector before you click on the go button. How about either making the 4x4, 5x5, and 6x6 selectors buttons that go directly to the puzzle. Alternatively start out with the 4x4 size highlighted, and when you've done all three highlight the 5x5 size, etc.

I think it's better to highlight and then click go. I mean, just in case someone accidentally hits the wrong size and gets a 5x5 when they were expecting a 4x4. Yes, would prefer 4x4 highlighted first, but this is personal preference. It would be interesting to find out if more people start with a 4x4 or a 6x6 (or 5x5?)

I've always wondered why the first untimed puzzle presented each day is the 6x6 easy. I always have to click on the 4x4 easy, since I like to work my way up.

Yes, I also find the 6x6 Easy default mildly annoying because I always start with 4x4 Easy and work up. I think someone (Patrick?) suggested making the default page something we could control in our settings. That would be cool.

THANK YOU for changing the way the timed puzzle selection works!!! I love that it now starts with 4x4 and changes to the next level up automatically when you've done your allotted number of puzzles in a given size! EXCELLENT!

I think it's great too. Thanks, Patrick!

Hi Patrick,
I know at some point I asked for the unofficial times to be added to puzzles larger than 6x6, but I forget if I asked for this update: add unofficial times for non-timed puzzles to the history.

Thanks!

I can't believe I've never thought to ask for this before:

Make hybrid twin puzzles. twin+zeros. twin+exponentiation. twin+subtraction only. twin+negatives (that might make {-3...+3} easier!). twin+double pattern!!!

I think I just calcugasmed.

But I do them in the order 6-5-4 6-5-4 6-5-4 !
But then again, the page wasn't even doing that [huh]

There's one such puzzle in the set for subscribers:
http://www.calcudoku.org/ops/subscribe
(6x6 twin from zero)
(not that new, because there are bonus puzzles like that as well)
