Post Its a New Year
Hi everyone,
Patrick gives us a great deal of pleasure and some pain by producing puzzles for us year and year out.
I believe Patrick does this out of the goodness in his heart.

I have no idea if the subscribers actually pay in enough to support this site, but I doubt it.
I also doubt Patrick makes serious money on the puzzles books.

If you are not a subscriber, consider becoming one.
You gain access to more puzzles, two dailies and one EXTRA. You get one month to solve the EXTRA puzzle.
You receive free puzzles books with subscriptions.
You can also complete with other subscribers in the Year To Date rankings.
And if you like timed puzzles, a subscriber gets access to the 8 x 8 timed.

I totally agree with the above. I was on the site for several months before becoming a subscriber. It wasn’t the cost that deterred me. Let’s face it, it’s incredibly reasonably priced! My concern was that I would spend too much time solving puzzles if I became a subscriber.

But it hasn’t really worked that way, as increased practice has reduced the time spent per puzzle and having a month to go back and solve the extra puzzles gives great flexibility around holiday times and other distractions. And being a subscriber shows support for all the effort Patrick puts into maintaining and developing this site.

Thanks for the testimonial [smile]

Yes, the income doesn't really cover the cost of the site, maybe if it grows 5 to 10 fold it will, who knows.

The books I kind of gave up on: they take a huge amount of time to produce,
and sell typically only a few copies a month (not counting the initial peak from people
of this site buying it)

I know it’s primarily a labour of love on your part, but I was hoping that you were making enough to at least cover your costs. I would certainly be willing to pay a higher annual sub and I expect a large proportion of your subscribers would feel the same way.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve decided to give up on the books. I guess the option of producing them in pdf only format wouldn’t really result in much of a saving as the effort involved in producing the puzzles would remain the same. And there probably wouldn’t be that much scope to increase the price, as there are lots of other puzzle books out there.

Anyway, I hope you don’t decide to give up altogether. I really enjoy the daily challenge and very much appreciate everything you do in keeping the site going. And I know there are many others who feel the same way.

I'm not giving up on the books, there just won't be that many.

This year I'm planning to do the next "Calcudoku Advanced" book [love]

That’s good to know. Put me down for the first copy!

I will take the second copy.

I usually purchase both the PDF and the real book. I like the larger PDF format but I save the completed books for reference.

I'll buy a copy but I also will donate some $'s.......as there is a note somewhere on this site that "donations are welcome" which I have been doing for quite some time.....I usually do it at the same time I re-subscribe [thumbsup]
