 drop Facebook ?
Given recent developments, how do people feel about dropping support for Facebook login on the site?

I've never used the Facebook login option, so it wouldn't affect me. But I can understand why you might want to drop it.

Yes. Some of the reasons are:

- enormous development overhead (especially in the beginning dealing with their API (programming interface) and documentation was a nightmare)
- keeping up with API changes
- having to use a different ad provider (only from a list of "approved providers", which does not include Google of course).
The revenue from the approved provider I use is about $10 a year [glare]
- having to have a Facebook account myself for this
- ...

I have never signed up for or used Facebook. The political and responsible company factors should also be mentioned and considered. Personally, I support dropping it. On the other hand, I would be inclined to defer to a minority that likes it if that group exists significantly enough to discount the practical factors.

I never use FB sign in for anything.

Can you tell if there are users who do use FB to sign in? If so, how many?

about 3 - 3.5 % of all puzzles solved in a day are solved via Facebook

(same percentage via Google+, by the way)

Of that 3 - 3.5%, can you tell how many are subscribers?

Would it be a hardship to you if you lost every FB subsciber? I doubt that would happen, but it is the worse case scenario.

Having never used FB, and always signing in via email, I know how to access my account.
I assume that you have everyone's email, even if they choose to signin via FB, so their account would not be lost.

It's inertia really, it'll take quite some effort to remove/transfer [glare]
