Post page scrolls itself
Is it a bug or a feature?

The page scrolls itself so that the top of the advert to the right of the puzzle aligns with the top of the panel. This moves the top couple of rows of a 9x9 off of the screen. Scrolling the page to position the puzzle into view again will only last for a few seconds before it happens again. The timing appears to match the reloading of the advert. This happens on multiple computers (all Macs) on multiple networks with multiple browsers (Safari and Chrome) which are both up to date. If I disable Javascript it stops it but unfortunately that prevents me from entering numbers into the puzzle.

So this looks to be an advert that grabs the screen for itself every so often. Is this a bug in the web page, a ploy to encourage people to subscribe or a badly behaving advert? Whatever the answer, the site is becoming unusable for me.

If I'm missing anything settings-wise, please let me know.

It looks like a bug.

The ad shouldn't be refreshing as far as I know (apparently that's not even allowed).

Also it's not a ploy to get people to subscribe.. (I get this just about every time there's a bug that breaks something,
see for example, viewtopic.php?p=6874#p6874 ..).

I'm trying to comply with ad requirements, which includes adding more space between the ad and the puzzle.
It looks like I inadvertently put the ad in the wrong place (also causing the "puzzle shadow" to be too large).

I'll try to fix it today.

edit: it should be better now, please let me know.

It's still happening for me... I was working on the KS and the ad started reloading, the screen jumped to the bottom, and stayed there despite my attempts to scroll up. The ad didn't actually start, so that was why it didn't stick.

Pretty annoying [mad]

So it was the ad on the side?

Is it possible for you to send me a screenshot?

And does this mean you don't click the "Remove ads" link when it appears?

thanks,

Patrick

It was definitely the ad on the side, and I don't click the "remove ads" link because whenever I did it in the past it dramatically slowed down the puzzle for some reason [confused]
However, I can't send you a screenshot because I didn't think of taking one [sad]
Next chance I get, I will (if I don't forget again)!

One more question: what is your screen resolution?

What "cell size" (small / medium / large) do you use for the Killer Sudoku, for example?

thanks,

Patrick

I use 1344x768 resolution i think [unsure]
And for KS, I use medium cell size. However it is happening on normal puzzles too - the large cell size ones like 4x4, 6x6, etc.
So I don't think that is the problem.

A screenshot would really help I think.

I'm now running Chrome "emulating" a small laptop (like your Chromebook (?)): I'm seeing a video side ad
playing many ads, but the page stays stable..

Does the page scroll down so the bottom ad is visible? (maybe the bottom ad is reloading and trying
to "make itself visible" ?)

thanks,

Patrick

Here it is! (finally)
It scrolls to the bottom like this (This isn't actually one of those times, I just imitated it)
It always does it when the side ad is loading.
I'll check to see if it is still happening... it seems to have become less of a problem lately, but it is still there.

EDIT: So far today it seems to have resolved itself. I am very hopeful that it might actually be gone [woot]

It seems to be a fairly common problem, see for example:

https://github.com/angular-ui/ui-scroll/issues/138
https://productforums.google.com/forum/ ... 6E26hDNvmY
https://productforums.google.com/forum/ ... _EprXKO_LE
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 0f6c639c96

Can you test with Chrome on a different computer?
And try with this "incognito mode"?

I updated my Chrome here to version 58, but unfortunately can't reproduce the problem :-(

I also just put in the "CSS fix" suggested on one of the above pages, let me know if this fixes it
(can't test here because I can't reproduce the problem yet)

thanks,

Patrick
