Re: Calcudoku.org 20 Million Solved Puzzles Analysis
Hey everybody, thanks for sending in your guesses as to when number 20 million will be solved! Assuming that I haven't been "disqualified" out of fairness to everyone else, my guess is Thursday, February 6, 2020 @ 02:18:37 CET. I've got a question, Patrick. Will the guessing process be like
A) The Price is Right (the winner is whoever comes the closest without going over)
or
B) Can our guesses be either before OR after the actual time (and still win, assuming the person guessing is the closest)?
Suppose, for instance, somebody thinks that puzzle 20 million will be solved at 03:00:00 on February 5th, 2020. Now suppose that puzzle 20 million was
actually solved on February 5th, 2020 at 02:59:59. In scenario A, that person would "overbid" by
1 second and would subsequently be the happiest person in the whole wide world! Or, rather, the (un)happiest person in the whole wide world!
Now imagine that scenario B is true, and number 20 million arrives at February 5th, 2020 at 03:00:00 CET. Suppose that 2 solvers both guess February 5th, 2020, the first at 02:59:59 and the other at 03:00:01. Both people would be 1 second away from the actual time and so they both would "win" (or "lose"). Thanks for clarifying, Patrick, and have a great day, guys.
