Re: 8x8 timed
Cut off for top 25 yesterday was 5:18! Looking at the graph Patrick published a while back, I think this may be the fastest ever.

Re: 8x8 timed
I don't know what's happening to me in the 8x8 timed! I think I must have developed some kind of mental block. I've now finished outside the top 25 in 6 of the last 10 days.
And, at the same time, other people are getting faster and faster. I had a relatively good day yesterday with a time of 4:05 and it was only good enough for 14th place.

Re: 8x8 timed
I had a spell like that -- often not getting top 25. Now it's better again -- still rarely getting top 10 but often getting close. I have no good theory as to why either spell happened.

Re: 8x8 timed
You also need a fair bit of luck. Some puzzles are harder than others; we use imperfect heuristics to solve puzzles quickly. And some work quicker than others.
For instance, today I had a time of 38.352 seconds on the 6x6. Yesterday that would have gotten me 4th, today that is probably not even enough for a top 10. My time of yesterday, 52.814 would probably struggle to get into the top 20 today. Yet it was good enough yesterday to get me 8th. A puzzle that was 30 per cent slower will get me a higher ranking.
Don't read too much into the daily stats. There is so much variance that is the result of 'luck'. And sometimes you just don't seem to have it. Happens to all of us.

Re: 8x8 timed
Dont ask me how this happened.
But I got my best time ever on an 8 x 8. (3:14)
I am still in shock.

I am still in shock. Congratulations! That's all the more impressive seeing that, with the unbeatable exception of jpoos, no one has (*ahem*) eclipsed your score on the 8 x 8 today (ba-dum tss )
