The 9 x 9 pattern that I most loathe
This is a way for me to count how many times this pattern occurs 2020. I hate this pattern. I swear it appeared about 5 times in 2019. So now I will add the dates this pattern occurs in 2020 so I can make an accurate count Tues Jan 7 2020 https://www.calcudoku.org/en/2020-01-07/9/3Tues Jan 28 2020 https://www.calcudoku.org/en/2020-01-28/9/3Tues Feb 25 2020 https://www.calcudoku.org/en/2020-02-25/9/3Tues Sept 1 2020 https://www.calcudoku.org/en/2020-09-01/9/3

Re: The 9 x 9 pattern that I most loathe
I believe that Patrick has stated in the past that this is the most difficult 9 x 9 pattern (that he uses).
I thought it was once stated that this pattern should appear about twice a year. I was pleased when sometime in March 2019, we had the second appearance of this pattern. And then it just kept appearing randomly  I trust Patrick when he says this pattern appears randomly.
I was most disappointed when it appeared on the day of the total solar eclipse, but then I had far many other issues to deal with. Any puzzles I was able to turn in that day took determination. (Solving them on an iPad with no ability to refresh (start over), and then plugging in the solution through my phone and hoping I had a connection. This occurred while in semi remote Chile.)

Definitely the most difficult pattern, in my opinion. I would be interested to see the stats for how many times this pattern has been solved on average compared to the more usual pattern.

Now it's a good story though paulv66 wrote: I would be interested to see the stats for how many times this pattern has been solved on average compared to the more usual pattern.
I'll see if I can dig that up..

I found this one easier than some. It still took more time than I usually spend on Tues 9 x 9.
I think the most challenging ones of this pattern are in Patrick’s books. Those puzzles do not have time limits on them so they can be even trickier

I think the difficult killer sudoku of today has some of the same patterns and I was not able to solve this one

I must have been lucky because it was long. I think I saw the “secret” early and was able to use it to my advantage.
